Many organizations have more than one internet service provider (ISP). This is often by necessity because they live in an area of poor connectivity; or prudence - they want a fall-back plan should their main ISP go down.

• Failovers are manually performed, causing downtime in-between switch from one provider the the backup.

Untangle provides bandwidth management applications that work closely together to help manage and optimize wide area connections (WANs), or multiple connections to the internet, all included in the Untangle Premium Package

Untangle's WAN Balancer allows organizations to easily split traffic across up to six different Internet connections. Internet traffic is then spread based on user-specified weightings, ensuring less contention and higher performance. Companies can also save money with WAN Balancer by eliminating an expensive T1 connection in favor of multiple and redundant Cable and DSL links.

Untangle's WAN Failover allows organizations to prevent network downtime caused by their ISP. The application detects if a company's primary Internet link goes down and switches traffic to a backup connection automatically. When used with WAN Balancer, WAN Failover detects downtime and reroutes traffic to the remaining Internet links. Once the primary link is back up, it switches back to normal, automatically, preventing downtime all the way.

Untangle's Bandwidth Control enables network administrators to control and visualize the use of their network at a fine-grained level. Bandwith can be assigned and prioritized per-user, per-site, and per-application quota. Network bandwidth can be guaranteed for users and/or applications, and unauthorized network usage can be punished by rate-limiting.
